Palitan (2012)


Mara won Best Actress for the film “Palitan” in the Cinema One Originals Film Festival in 2012, one of the most well regarded independent film festivals in the country. The Cinema One Originals Film Festival has featured many independent films that have gone on to be screened in notable film festivals worldwide. “Palitan” by Ato Bautista is an erotic, psychological drama-thriller set on the gritty streets of Manila, where Mara plays the role of an abused wife.


Jesusa (2020)


In 2020, Mara won Best Supporting Actress in a Foreign Language Film at the North Europe International Film Festival for the film “Jesusa.” The film tells the story of a barren woman who deals with her philandering husband as he moves in with his latest mistress. Mara plays one of her stepdaughters as Jesusa succumbs to the ways of the neighborhood drug addicts.

K’na The Dreamweaver (2014)


Her other notable roles include “K’na The Dreamweaver” where Mara plays the princess of the indigenous T’boli tribe in the Philippines. The film has been screened in many countries around the world and has been featured by the New York Times. “K’na The Dreamweaver” won the Special Jury Prize in the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, the most prestigious film festival in the country. Cinemalaya is known to be attended by many notable international actors and filmmakers.


BuyBust (2018)


Mara was also featured in BuyBust, a Netflix Original film directed by Erik Matti. This is Mara’s first action film, where she did all her own stunts for her role as a DEA agent. Erik Matti is a celebrated Filipino director who is now working on projects with HBO MAX.

Apart from her acting roles, Mara is a credible host, a well-known female surfer, and a brand ambassador for brands like GoPro. She has been invited to walk the red carpet in the San Sebastian Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, and Tokyo International Film Festival, to name a few.
